Is the 12-40mm good enough to forego 12mm, 17mm, 25mm and 45mm primes?

If you don't feel you need anything else, you probably don't. For most of the primes and the reasons you listed, there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason at all. In any case, some quick thoughts on reasons to get a prime (none of which may apply to you):

1. If you want something light and discreet. 17/1.8, 20/1.7, 25/1.8 or even 25/1.4 are good options. The 45/1.8 may be useful if you want a smaller lens to do candid portraits but, to be honest, don't think it matters much.

2. If you want the fastest possible lens, for low light or for control over depth of field. 25/1.4, 42.5/1.2 or 75/1.8 are good options, though with very different applications.

3. If you want a specialized lens, such as the Samyang 7.5 fisheye or a macro lens.

One thing missing from your range is ultra-wide. Some people just don't shoot in that range, and nothing wrong with that. The obvious options there are the 9-18 and 7-14.
