Ring necked parakeet in the spotlight.

This bird is becoming more and more common in western Europe, but was only "introduced" in the late 60's of the 20th century. It's native to tropical areas of Afrika and Asia, so it's quite bewildering that it has managed to survive and even modestly thrive in western Europe. Outside of the breeding season they collect at mostly the larger city parks to collectively sleep.

I first noticed a pair breeding last year on at one of my favorite local birding locations near a small winding river. They are back this year and as soon as the trees there were in blossom, they could be seen feeding on the blossom, one of their favorite meals. It's still a bit weird to hear their shrieking call or see their tropical colors, but slowly they are becoming native birds nonetheless.

All with the Sigma 500/4.5 + K3
