As I can understand from this video: (on 16 minute)

On sensor PDAF of nex-6 is inaccurate, and eventually it uses CDAF. Updating camera processor update camera performance in general, and makes on sensor PDAF slightly more accurate. In continous shooting mode the precision of AF is not as important as it is in single shooting mode, the speed is more imprtant So they just enable camera to operate without CDAF in continous shooting mode. When you are shooting the object that covers several PD points, it could be accurate enough.
