G1X Mk2 is NOT a G2X. It's not even considered a successor. Same as Canon lenses with a Mk2 designation are not a new type of lens but a re-marketing of the original lens using technical advancements. This new camera is simply a re-modelled G1X. In fact it's still called a G1X. It is not a G2X.

Really? Are you saying that the G1X MKII is not the successor of the G1X? Come on, you are grabbing at straws here... there is nothing wrong in admitting one was wrong...

He never has in the past, why would you expect anything different now?

Growing old is inevitable, Growing up is optional!

u2 has difficulty in reading comprehension? Marco says not g1x to g2x but from g1x mk1 to g1x mk2. They are very different!

Canon's naming conventions are at best meaningless and at worst wildly confusing. They have completely changed the names of some P&S lines despite the new model being a direct successor to it's predecessor. They had a 1D, 1Ds, 1D X, 1D C, skipped numbers in the G series becuase of Japanese superstitions, and think Americans can handle a XXD designation but not an XXXD number for the Rebel line (Rebel, Rebel XT, XTi, XSi, T1i, T2i, T3i, etc since that makes way more sense than 300D, 350D, 400D, etc....not to mention all the "Kiss" designations!). Their names are all meaningless in any practical way.

tks for explaining howard.  i sense that a few here has a presumption of marco's tendencies of his point of view.   I don't follow his history here but I tend to kind of agree with his re-marketing or remodelling  view of this next g1x mk2.  Canon has to answer a new market (small form factor w/large sensor hi ISO capable cam like what Sony n fuji has) segment and just maybe happen to use the g1x (now is obviously a modelseries) as the designated line to carry forward.  G1x mk1 looks tome  a different class mainly to its form factor n crippled focussing speed  but I could be wrong.
