Re: Who will abandon mirrorless first?

As soon as something makes a loss or something better comes along, any one of the camera companies will hurriedly dump their camera line.

Minolta sold their camera line to Sony.

IBM sold their laptop division to Lenevo.

Jaguar was sold to Ford.

Contax developed a really good DSLR and then threw in the towel and strted concentrating on ther stuff.

Names that have vanished in my memory

  • Praktaika
  • Rollei
  • Zenit
  • Zorki
  • Lubitel
  • Agfa
  • Kodak

All of these companies exited the camera world.

At the end of WW2 the surplus steel helmets got restamped into saucepans. If Pentax found something more lucrative than cameras that could use the same division then do you think they would bother making a single camera?

It's commerce. While there's a benefit for the company they'll make cameras. When that benefit ceases to be attractive, they'll stop. The consumer is just an annoying creature that buys their products. They care nothing for the consumer. They care about dividends, profits and wages. That is all.
