On Sony not providing lossless raw - why?

Hello, before I get shot for trolling let me assure you that I (i) used these search function and found a very nice technical discussion dissecting what the lossy raw format does/doesn't do; (ii) I am asking about the why/reason why Sony chose to do this, and I am sure this has been probably discussed to a conclusion already so wanted to draw from the forum what the conclusion was.

Basically, why Sony opted for the philosophy of a lossy RAW format with no options for anyone to choose lossless RAW.  Does anyone know?  Is it just really to "preserve space?" Any other reasons I may be missing? Did they go on record why?

Thanks all in advance.
