Sensor Dirt Advice

Hi

I took some pictures yesterday and ended up with the attached anomaly appearing in every one of my pictures in the same fixed position, visible where the background was a blue sky. The sample is at 1/40s, aperture at f11. I switched lenses and saw the same horse shoe shape appear again so when I came home I used a Giottos air blaster on the sensor, took several 5 second plus exposures against white walls as well as exterior shots and there is now no horseshoe visible on the test shots.
What is likely to have caused the mark in such a shape? It was a dry, bright day and about 18 degrees centigrade. I was under the impression that dirt only showed up in longer exposures but the horseshoe is visible in my photos with exposures of 1/500s plus.

Sensor dirt?

Thanks in advance!
