Its REALLY easy to fix....

And the fix can be applied to ANY camera you buy.

The fix is to learn the craft of photography where you choose the exposure.

At first this answer comes off a bit snotty, but that is not my intent. You have to understand a machine can never take the place of the computer 5 inches behind the viewfinder.

Its a tool that is imperfect.

But most Nikon cameras respond closer to what you want if you put it in Center Weighted Metering....it usually ends up being closer to the exposure most would find acceptable from a Point And Shoot kind of approach.

But if you ever want to truly have good pictures...it will require you being a bit more involved in the process. Hopefully you bought a DSLR so you could be just a bit more involved in the process.
