EF lens' aperture on APS-C sensor

First of all sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this but I wanted to get the nifty fifty, mostly for its 1.8 aperture and IQ/price, but I heard that you need to multiply by 1.6 not only the focal length but also the aperture if you're using an EF lens on EF-S body. My question is - if I get a 50mm 1.8 (which is an EF lens afaik?) for my APS-C camera (60D) will it be a 2.8 lens instead of 1.8?

I'd also like to know whether it's worth getting it for my particular camera or not.

Thanks in advance,

Raul
