Not just unscientific, it's flawed. The 12-40/2.8 is full equivalent (disregarding aspect ratio) of 24-80/5.6 on FF, not just DOF. You set it on f/2.8, i.e. f/5.6 on FF. And 24-105/4+SB on APS-C is full equivalent of 25.6-112/4.26 on FF, which you set at f/4, i.e f/4.26 on FF. So what are you comparing?

The 12-40mm pro lens I believe still takes in light at f2.8 ,and yes the effective DOF is 5.6.

That's what stubborn people on m4/3 forum believe, they invented perpetuum mobile and don't even realize that. To calculate the light received by the sensor you need to integrate the light flux hitting the sensor over the area. The size does matter. In the final analysis, it's the lens physical aperture that collects the light, f-stop is just a ratio = aperture/FL, so you can as well integrate the incoming flux for a given field of view over the aperture area of the lens, there is no magic in the world that can make 12mm/2.8=4.28mm aperture on m4/3 to collect more light than 24mm/4 = 6 mm aperture on FF for the same FOV.

Then explain why the shutter speed is faster on m43 at f/2.8 vs APS-c or FF at f/4?

Because you chose non-equivalent ISOs. You can have any shutter speed when you compare apples and oranges.

...it does make a difference...BIG difference...stubbornness has nothing to do with it...

Yep, stubbornness coupled with inability to understand the basic physics. I don't have problem with the ignorant as long as they are willing to learn, but when it's coupled with arrogance it becomes obnoxious.

Lol...you never explained why the f/2.8 has a faster shutter speed than f/4? Stubborness, Arrogance or Obnoxious?

Shutter Speed is it pure and simple...add to that IBIS and voila...low ISO and Fast Shutter Speed the combo...

Now you are coming as a typical m4/3 troll. As I said, I can explain to the ignorant willing to learn, but as a good book said, "neither cast ye your pearls before swine".

Believe me I love fast glass and the A7r IQ, but only for portraits and landscapes, the EM1 out performs on every other aspect...the advantage of low light is becoming less and less due to the fast m43 lens available...then add IBIS for my old shaky hands and it helps, me anyways...

Not about trolling, about being honest with the capabilities of each camera and zoom lens...I can't believe the 12-40 and EM1 are as close as they are for landscapes, although the A7r is superior, IT MUST have great glass in front of it to clearly excel above the EM1 12-40 without doubt...

Took these yesterday in bright sunlight, don't always believe myself as well...really seeing what the limits are as far as using zooms, couple of trips planned this year and while the EM1 and A7r would be great to have, taking either with a suite of lens is not on my agenda, one good fast zoom and a small prime would be the limit...so doing some testing with both so theres no doubt in my mind...these are not the only test I will do either...

Two different aspect ratio's 3:2 vs 4:3...love the way the A7r renders the colors and depth...100% Crops below...
