Does compact cameras has reached specification limit on hardware?

The reason why decline of compact digital cameras are, is that compact digital cameras has now reached the limit of hardware specification. Due to lack of innovations and compare to smartphones, somehow image quality seems to be no big difference at all. Soon, this would probably be the future of DSLR. Of course, in the future, dslr mega pixel 's and image sensor's will be improved, but as we see images on the web right now, actually there isn't any big difference as long as you photoshop the picture. Same for DSLR. compare to 2012 and 2013 latest models , specifications on dslr hasn't changed much. Only camera design, concepts, has been changed a bit.

I believe in the future, we might probably go back to old days, where cameras were just cameras and phones were just phones. During the film photography, the camera models has not been update too frequently as much as we do it in today. Unless there is real innovations, compact cameras will become like mp3 players.
