DAM and a pixel editor

Here's an interesting article rounding up some of the types of software you should be looking at:

In my opinion, you should consider starting with iPhoto for your photo management and basic retouching (red eye removal, crop and rotate, etc) and either Acorn or Pixelmator for a pixel editor (both available on the Apple AppStore for about $50).

If you decide to "move up," Lightroom, Aperture and Capture One Express would be worth investigating.
