NX-D: Time to give out the codec...
Why won't Nikon just give out the encryption codec for RAW files so that companies like Adobe can make software that will decipher all of the in-camera settings? It is clear Nikon has abandoned the serious editing software market. So, why not just give out the codec and let serious developers run with it?
They already offer software APIs for developers, APIs of the NEF file format etc. and I believe at least the basic needed informations are available through those Nikon developer APIs. - Everything that goes beyond these might be in order to protect their corporate knowhow and internally used technology. Though I believe they might do cooperate to some degree with the majority of third party software developers like Adobe, DXO, CaptureOne etc.
