Don't let anyone talk you into Photoshop. It is massive overkill even for most professional photographers, more for art editors, really. Photoshop Elements is a better bet.

Lightroom is cheap and may be all you need, it is more a photographer's program. If you need more manipulation, layers and so on, then LR and Elements are a good pairing.

I make my my living with my photography and have used LR for many years, starting with V1 on a Mac notebook. I only use Photoshop because it is the industry standard. If I were a hobbyist or enthusiast, I would go for Elements.

In point of fact there is little that you can't do with, which is free.
