K3 DNG File Format conversion for older Mac: Loss in Quality?

Hello,

I tried out a K3 yesterday in the store with my SD card so I could see how well Aperture on my 2008 Macbook Pro with 6 GB memory would handle the larger RAW files. Even though I made sure I was shooting DNG files, I found out when I got home that my Mac, still running OS X 10.6, couldn't view the files in Aperture or anywhere else. After searching this forum I discovered how the K3 uses a newer version of DNG (v.1.2.0.0) than the K5II/s's (v.1.1.0.0) and I could convert the files back to the older format (I assume) with Adobe's free DNG converter (ver 8.3: also coverts PEF's).  This works great.

My question is: How much loss in quality, if any, occurs here?  There must al least be some kind of advantage for the newer version that I'm giving up here.  It may be a while before I upgrade my Mac OS to support the new DNG format.  I'll look into this.  It may involve buying a new computer - yet another expense!

Thanks!

-Bob
