Olympus MCON-P02 Macro Converter - First Images
Mar 4, 2014

I just received my MCON-P02 today. It's a focal reducer, meant for use on a variety of Olympus lenses. I have 3 Olympus primes (12, 25, 45mm), and decided to shoot some "test" images with and without the adapter.

I focused on the "ED" on the first lens listed on the box. I shot the images comparing the lenses with and without the adapter wide open, with the adapter at f/8, and lastly the 45mm at base ISO on a tripod.

Overall, I'm very happy with the little adapter. It takes up literally no space in my bag (with the caps, it's 0.75" tall and 2.75" in diameter), and transforms the 45mm in to a very capable macro lens (just be sure to stop it down to get a sharper image as you move away from the focal point). Unless you shoot a ton of macro images, I see no reason to buy the Olympus 60mm macro over the Olympus 45mm and this adapter (or even the Sigma 60mm, since it has 46mm filter threads as well).
