Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 vs. Nikkor AIS 20mm F/2.8
Mar 2, 2014

I'm going to Iceland in a few weeks and want to shoot wide-angle nature photos with my Nikon D600.

I'm in doubt wether I should go for a new Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 (575 USD) or a used Nikkor AIS 20mm F/2.8 (370 USD)

I like the low focus length on the Tamron, but on the Nikon I like the faster aperture, and the fact that the lens is physically smaller, so I can keep it in my pocket when it's not mounted, and it attracts less attention when it's on. But I think the difference in the focus length is a big deal, because the +10mm does a lot of difference in presenting the overwhelming wide open spaces.
I guess the aperture is irrelevant in outdoor daylight photos on Iceland, but later, if I want to shoot indoor, they could become handy.

What lens would you prefer, and why?
