I would strongly recommend learning lightroom as well and shooting in RAW only.

To keep it simple when i do, I usually shoot indoors without a flash in Aperture priority mode, wide open or lowest F stop it can go such as F2.8 or F4. leave everything else on Auto (ISO) and just focus on framing and getting a sharp focus. Remember Composition is probably more important than exposure now because you can do so much editing in lightroom to fix exposure (up to a certain point).
