What determines DPI?

I'm not sure I'm asking this question correctly but I'll give it a shot and an example of why I'm asking.

Being the nerd that I am, I am comparing different cameras on DP, starting with one and using the "compare JPEG, compare JPEG HIGH ISO" etc function available in certain camera reviews on here.

The image size corresponded correctly to each individual camera but in the case of the Sony RX100, the dpi was 350 and the other two (Canons) were both only 150 dpi.  Does the camera put this out or is it changed in post?

As I said, I'm not sure if I'm asking this correctly and it could very well be a "duh" moment but maybe not.  I'm so used to shooting in RAW with a full frame DSLR and tweaking things in Lightroom and/or Photoshop and never thought about just plain JPEG files before.

Hope someone can answer this for me.  Thanks.
