Wondering about 35mm FF technology. Is this old paradigm?

With all the development in digital photography since 2004 (since I began digital), I am thinking that big sensors striving to mimic a very popular film technology is silly and does not apply in this day of digital photograph. Well at least to me, I am not a Pro with end use of bill boards, mass print medium etc.. I presume I am in the majority in my requirements of a camera.

Any thoughts?
