I use Fuji, but I believe in using the right tool for the job. If you want an optical viewfinder, the X-M1 is not the right tool for the job because it doesn't have any viewfinder.  It's LCD-only.

Mirrorless is generally incompatible with OVFs, excluding oddities like the Fuji X-Pro.

Beware video performance on the Fuji X series. There are reports that it flat out doesn't work in dim indoor lighting.

As for the SL1, Canon cameras lag the rest of the industry in shadow noise. This will impact low light performance, particularly if you shoot raw and do non-trivial bightness adjustments.

Nikon is a better option than either Canon or Fuji if you need low light performance and an optical viewfinder. However, Nikon's entry level DSLR isn't as small as the SL1.

If you're willing to compromise on size but must have an OVF, look at the D3300 or D3200. If you're willing to compromise on the OVF but must have small size, the X-M1 is a good choice.
