"Velvia is very very critical around exposure - I did a test set with 1 stop increments when I bought my G617 and then used that to dial-in my exposures."  Kodachrome 25 was similarly sensitive to exposure. In the past (when K25 existed), I got the best results using an incident light meter. I walked to the subject, pointed the dome back to the camera location, and used the exposure measurement shown on the dial. I still use this for black and white film. This is faster than using a spot meter and metering several parts of the scene.
