Baby Taj, Agra (I'timaad Ud Daulah)
Feb 25, 2014

The tomb of I'timad Ud-Daulah, or "The Pillar of the State", a title given to Mirza Ghiyas Beg who served Emperor Akbar as the Treasurer. He was the father of Nurjehan - wife of Jahangir, and grandfather of Mumtaz in whose memory the Taj Mahal was built. This building marks the transition of architecture from primary red stone buildings with a little marble work here and there, to fully marble-clad buildings. Built around 1620 by Nurjehan, this houses the tomb of her parents and other relatives. Going by the extraordinary art work on marble, this can easily said to be the model or inspiration for Taj Mahal. If you happen to visit Agra, make it a point to ask for "Baby Taj" as this is colloquially known here. You will not be disappointed.

I had shot the photos a long time back and had shared in another forum, and now I have pleasure in sharing these here.
