Shouldn't mirrorless cameras have larger capacity batteries?

A mirror less camera obviously consume more juice. So why do manufacturers put such tiny batteries in them? I know size of the camera plays a big part but....

....a 10 year old Nikon DSLR came with 1500mAh battery and I could squeeze 700-1000 photos from it. Yet a new camera like XE-2/XT-1 has only a 1200mAh battery?

Shouldn't a system that requires more juice have a more beefier battery?
