I just bought an Olympus 75-300mm about an hour ago so here is one of my first shots.

It's of the sun, as there are some nice looking sunspots today. A vast improvement over my 14-150mm I had been using before, and since it's the sun the slightly slower lens really doesn't matter in this application.

Don't try this at home folks! I'm using a home made solar filter made from some Baader solar film. Point your zoom right at the sun and you will melt it!

Way better detail in this one than my last sun post over a year back. Plus just niceer looking sunspots. A nice group of large and small ones today.

Hi Ian,

This is really interesting and quite impressive for a first try. I have seen good sunspots pictures with dedicated telescopes/filters that only cost around $500...you are brave to take this on with a regular camera and a home-made filter...you know what you are doing, but this is serious stuff.

I would be interested in seeing more of these in the future. Could you do a series over time that would show things moving around?
Best regards,
Jeff
