Just one theory (taken at random)...

Take a look at the Leica forum - most posts include pictures.

Take a look at the Nikon FX forum - most posts do not include pictures.

Yes, this is an equipment forum, but...

People with Leica cameras (or even other cameras) take pictures and like to post and discuss them.

People with Nikon FX cameras are either A) always out taking pictures and do not have time to post and discuss them or B) they like to talk about equipment and do not take pictures (and therefore do not post or discuss them). For whatever reason.

Given the temperament that you outline I'd guess B) is happening around here. People who take pictures are generally very happy and fulfilled. People who do not are cranky and argumentative. Trolling, however, is simply a behavior (or even a sport) all its own outside of any specific genre.

Therefore, the solution to this forum atmosphere is for people to go take more pictures Whether or not they post them here.

"Be nice and work hard."

This is so true. It's worse in the Nikon lens forum. No one over there owns the gear they're bashing. The only lens that's generally approved over there is the Sigma 35 1.4, Sigma this, Sigma that. Most of them don't own that lens either, they just claim it's superiority based on price.

If Nikon gear is inexpensive, it has a good reputation on this forum. If it's expensive, it's not worth it, overpriced, poor build quality, has focus issues etc etc. Again, a lot of the comments you'll find aren't coming from people who own the gear

FX forum is the worst offender, full of complete gear heads whose only pleasure is to boast about their cameras. The (almost defunct) pro DX forum and the DX forum are a lot more civil, with lots of useful info and lots of pics as well

I can only attribute it to the snobism of owning "the best" gear.
