TZ60 review on "les numériques"

New TZ60 review on French site "les numériques": http://www.lesnumeriques.com/appareil-photo-numerique/panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz60-p18430/test.html

The build and looks of the camera garners praise from them. They are not terribly enthusiastic about the EVF though, noting it has the same performance as the LF1 and specifically that internal reflections make it hard to see through the EVF in full sunlight - which would be a shame considering that's what the EVF probably mainly should be used for. Having the LF1 myself, I haven't had a chance to test its EVF in strong sunlight yet, but going by this new review the "new optics" on the EVF aren't much of an improvement, if at all.

Focusing and shot-to-shot speeds (in JPG) are very fast.

Then, however, they seem to be very disappointed in the image quality (unlike chip.de). The lens on their sample sufered from heavy chromatic abberrations, showed a rapid decline in sharpness toward the cornerss/edges and was generally inconsistent in quality. As for the performance of sensor/processor, they note that Panasonic (like with the TZ40) has chosen for heavy noise suppression and they don't like the results. According to them, the 18MP mostly serves to show the faults of the lens more clearly and makes the sensor sensitive to diffraction effects.

While they note that those defects tend to show clearly only zoomed-in at the screen or when printed at larger than 20x30cm, nevertheless they seem to be quite disappointed.

All in all, a disappointing result that reminds me of the TZ20 (ZS10), which was also liked for everything but its image quality. Since chip.de was far more positive (and "les numériques" rated the Sony HX50 quite highly despite its 20MP, so they aren't automatically dismissive because of that), it's possible the tested sample may have had a subpar lens. It seems to happen more and more often that lenses and compact cameras show quite severe fluctuations in quality between samples.
