Canon doesn't really give a toss
In reply to Graham Hill, Feb 21, 2014

While some of you might get very excited and even tribalistic as to which type of camera will win out, perhaps you wouldn't be so concerned if you realised that even Canon (arguably No. 1 seller of DSLRs) really doesn't give a toss.

What camera manufacturers do care about is producing and selling enough cameras, efficiently enough to be profitable. A few of them might even be concerned about their market share / sales ranking.

But whether those cameras are DSLRs or mirrorless, or indeed some other type that we have not even thought of yet, really doesn't matter. Manufacturers will make whatever consumers will buy. And if professional consumers want something different to enthusiasts and enthusiasts want something different to Joe Bloggs - then so be it. Manufacturers will simply make what technology allows and we are prepared to pay for. And as for the timing of the changeover from one type to another, when and if there is one, well that will depend on business considerations rather than the outpourings of a few willy waving idiots.  Whichever side they are on.
