Some low light handheld D800 shots

I was in London last Saturday visiting my daughter who is at one of the Universities there. We went to see the wonderful exhibition of Harry Callahan photos at the Tate Modern. If you live in the area and are planning on going don't forget to also see the William Eggleston exhibition in the adjoining rooms.

I'd only ever seen Callahan's photos on-line so it was great to have the chance to look at a good selection of his prints.

The same day we also visited a light & sound exhibition at the Barbican. It's called Momentum and is by a company called United Visual Artists. It was extremely dark in the exhibition which was all about shafts of light moving to sound. Photography was allowed but no flash and tripods would have been dangerous in the dark like that.

Here's some handheld shots I took - they are all taken at iso 6400 with my 16-35vr lens wide open at f4. Shutter speeds were very low, typically between 1/4 second and nearly 1 second which is far lower than I would normally be comfortable with using the D800. I was particularly impressed by how clean the blacks are at such a high iso.
