The D7100 is a fine camera for casual shooters, semi-pros and will satisfy most peoples needs. Also has great reach for use with telephoto lenses.

However, if you did feel like spending the extra money FX and the D610 is still in another league, with more latitude with post processing and less noise over DX cameras including the D7100. And higher DXOmark scores.

You can remove the noise from D7100 in post, but it is a lot easier to do so with an FX image.

With respect to all who like the D7100 and can get great images, the added advantage of great IQ at low light of FX, then D610 if you wanted to spend the money would be the way to go.

Best to download samples from each camera and compare the images.
