But the best evidence comes not from looking at comparables on DPR, bit from carefully controlled testing, such as DXO does. And their measurements show that the the &D, and even the much newer 70D, are marginally better (by less than a quarter stop) than the A77 in high-iso performance, but very much inferior in dynamic range and color depth--several stops inferior. Indeed, those two Canon cameras, one of them quite recent, have over-all sensor ratings at the A700 level.
The D7100 is another story: it has about half a stop better performace with high iso, and very marginally better performance in both dynamic range and color depth.
Sony should not replace the A77 unless it can offer a substantially better camera. And I believe that they WILL offer such a camera, better on many fronts, very shortly.
