I think you are missing a point here. The "pixels" in a Bayer sensor are really dots grouped into fours. The number of red-sensitive pixels in a so-called 24-Megapixel Bayer camera is only 6 million; so is the number of blue-sensitive pixels. There are 12 million green-sensitive photodetectors.

A Merrill camera has 15 million photodetectors for each colour. Even in the green, that is more than a "24-Megapixel" Bayer camera. For red and blue, it is more than twice as many.

Now, if you compare a 36-Megapixel Bayer camera, with 18 million green "pixels", to the Merrill sensor, the green resolution is greater. Red and blue are still lower.
