D FA 100mm Macro (non-WR): Focus ring slips
Feb 19, 2014

Hi Everyone,

I got my Pentax D FA 100mm (non-WR) Macro a few days ago from KEH (see my recent thread:

D FA 100mm Macro - WR vs non-WR: Bokeh & IQ?)

I've just taken a few test shots and it and it seems to work fine except that the focusing ring feels rough when I turn it and it slips: that is, I can continue turning it, albeit with much more resistance, after the lens has reached its limits (either at infinity or all the way close).  This doesn't seem like a good thing to me but is it a serious problem (or could it become one)?  I have the focusing clamp turned off, although if the clamp is on I can still turn the focusing ring, but with considerably more resistance - is this normal?  I've never had another lens that focusing ring slipped.  This lens was rated LN- (almost like new) by KEH.

I have 2 weeks to send it back if this is a serious problem.

Thanks for any help on this!
