How does the camera choose the AF Point?

Hi. Can someone please educate me, how does the camera choose the AF point (assuming it's in auto AF point)? I'm trying to understand how my Canon 6D works.

Before someone points out about manually choose the AF point, I agree it is the best way. But often I want a stranger or my auntie Anne to take my photo, so auto AF points maybe the best way.

Also, is there any Canon dSLR that offers face-detection in PDAF mode (eg. non-liveview)?

Thanks.
