Tokina 11-16mm DX II issues
This is my first post, and it's because I don't even know what to do at this point. I've ordered two of these by mail order. The first one had a terrible back focus issue.
What irks me is that the front element was covered in dust when I took the cap off. I used a giotto and one blast took it all off. The lens cap was also encrusted with dust. Whatever. What I don't know what to do about is that when I pulled the focus ring back into manual mode, there's grit on it, and I can feel it as I turn the ring.
You should buy from a physical shop where you can inspect the lens. Mail order places probably have a "returns bin" from where they simply send out yet another reject instead of a new lens. A dirty "new" lens is inexcusable.
I bought a Sigma 10-20mm from a local dealer, tested it in the shop, had the correct filter fitted and that was worth the extra $100 I paid over mail-order. I'm confident that the owner of the shop would have exchanged the lens had my tests been unsatisfactory.
The Tokina is supposed to be OK, but the extra FL range of the Sigma is useful.
