I would second much of Windsprite's views. We should have a separate forum on Whippet photography.

Just some examples of what can be done at high ISOs on a dreary day with the D600 - fairly straight out the camera JPGs

This is with the Sigma 150-500 OS, which is an adequate rather than fantastic lens, with a slowish maximum aperture - even so focus was usually OK; your 70-200 f2.8, even with a 1.4 teleconverter would probably be better than this. I find I use the long end mostly for wildlife, dogs mainly look better in the mid range of the lens. If I didn't have the Sigma, the new Tamron 150-600 is looking attractive.
