Here's a different comparison

I took the two photos below a short time ago. For the first I used a Sony A7r and Zeiss ZM 50/2 Planar at f/2.8. For the second I used an E-M1 and PanaLeica 25/1.4 at f/1.4. Cameras mounted on same tripod in same location, ISO 200, AF with the E-M1, MF (of course) with the A7r. RAW files processed in PhotoRAW on my iPad, then a levels tweak, some USM and downsampling to 1024 pixels horizontal in Photogene. No cropping.

The A7r/50mm combo:

Sony A7r, Zeiss ZM 50/2 Planar at f/2.8.

The E-M1/25mm combo:

Olympus E-M1, PanaLeica 25/1.4 at f/1.4.

Note that the Zeiss is a sharper lens at f/2.8 than the PanaLeica is at f/1.4. Thus the point of focus, the alien head's left eye (from its perspective), is rendered more sharply in the Sony/Zeiss pic. Note also that PhotoRAW doesn't correct the PanaLeica's barrel distortion.

I'd say any differences in apparent DOF are minor at most.
