What hit me the most in the answers was the reiteration of the "need of awareness". I see so many people (friends and family included) that buy a DSLR and never go past the shoddy kit lenses bundled with it.

If only these people knew what they could've gotten instead with the money. Even a used x10 could blow the socks of most lower end DSLR + kit combos.

Almost everyone comes to the marketplace looking for their first ILC camera having virtually no concept of what photography consists of. The vast majority of the market have experience with P&S cameras and that's it. The reason they buy a DSLR is they only have the "bigger is better" mentality when it comes to cameras.

A smaller group of Customers will spend some time and get to realize that a bigger camera is not always better, that a smaller camera you're more likely to actually carry around with you is the better camera, and besides that, very few people need or benefit from the resolution vastly more expensive cameras provide.

Some Customers take 2 or 3 purchases to come around to this realization. But as their numbers continue to grow, eventually the buying public will get to that "101st monkey" moment of enlightenment.
