You could say that Apple does, as their iOS updates and OSX updates are targeted to bring machines / devices that are many years past being current up to date with current-selling machines / devices.

I think also that upgrading machines with more complex OS versions makes them slower to a point you have to buy a new one.... Computers companies have a different agenda than Fuji. Where computer companies do it for profit Fuji does it to improve the customer relation. Différent.

This dynamic stretches across the entire gamut of products and tools. Someone invents some "thing" that does some "other thing." People begin using the thing, and eventually start using the thing for other purposes. So someone comes along and changes how the original thing looks or works. In time the thing undergoes repeated changes until it no longer resembles what it first looked like, and can barely accomplish the task it was originally designed to do.

With computer software, it's fairly easy to add this function and that function to the original program. But eventually the application becomes a patchwork affair that no one can figure out and it's better to start all over again.

Thankfully, with Fuji, 20 - 30 years from now we'll still be able to use the superb glass they're putting out today -- at least those of us who are still around come then.
