I found that the ratings on some ball heads is not an accurate reflection of their capacity. The ball may not rotate with the rated weight but with even half the weighted rate there can be flexing of the connecting shaft between the ball and the clamp and this is not good. This is where the Arca-Swiss, Kirk, and RRS ball heads are a safer bet as they do perform up to their rated weight capacities.

well, i have to call RRS and ask them about my experience with my 1Dx/600 f4II and RRS' BH-55 head the didn't support my camera/lens. i was very disappointed to say the least if i didn't have their wimberly head, i'd be hosed! i'd like to see what RRS would say about that!
