Hi Nick,

I don't recall seeing any noticeable difference between moderately cropped and non-cropped images. Although I will mention I rarely print larger than A4. On those occasions when I change my mind post-shot on the composition I want and crop heavily, maybe to a half or less of the original image, there is to my eyes at least a difference.

On your second point I must respectfully but happily disagree. There is such a thing as a free lunch, fortunately for all of us, at least in terms of improvements in sensor technology over time. The sensor in the XE2 has considerably more mega-pixels, better DR, and far superior noise performance than the 6Mp sensor in the D70 I had several years ago. All gain, no pain.
