Going Haswell....now i3 vs i5 vs i7 (Anyone out there know how PS & hardware work?)

For regular 2D photo editing. I already have a SSD for my main drive. 16GB of ram is already budgeted

I am guessing that the 2D performance (no video editing) of all the chips would be very close...so is there a reason to spend the extra money on the i7

I could use the money I save on a 2nd SSD for Cache duty...and that with 16GB of ram should smoke with even just the i3 chip.

Basics

1. How many cores does Photoshop CC see and use?

2. How hard does it push them during normal editing?

3. Would having a few other cores open during editing help keep the PC multi tasking?

I am a technician by trade...but I do not know enough about how Photoshop interacts with the hardware and what it is programmed to leverage when it sees multiple cores.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....and if you even just know some links to some data out there that you have found....dont mind doing my own research.
