D7100 viewfinder never in focus: Nikon = beyond repair?

Howdy, I sent in my d7100 under warranty to Nikon for repair, as the viewfinder is never in focus (busted diopter? mirror not flipping back up properly?). They said the bayonet mount appears bent suggesting impact damage, the camera is beyond repair and the camera is not covered in warranty (because appears to be impact damage) and mailed it back to me. I use a 70-200m 2.8 quite often, not sure if that could have bent some internals from perhaps not supporting the lens entirely (never had issues with my d300 + d300s) but I don;t recall any specific impact. Can someone please advise where to go from here? I.E. does Nikon give up too easily / is there someplace else I should send the camera?
