Hopefully fewer pixels means...

Much better low-light/high ISO performance.  I'm not as concerned about dynamic range as some others, but an improvement there would be great as well.  Come on test shots.

Excited? Not really. Interested? Yes.

In today's market, for a "compact" camera to succeed, it has to be small; Canon have made the camera small, while keeping it's core features: large sensor, robust construction, fixed high quality zoom lens (and faster than previous model), nice touch screen interface. They also finally got rid of the useless OVF.

So, all in all, it seems like a very competent photographic tool, that will give DSLR-like image quality in a very small package.
