Confused....24-105 f/4 and 100 macro field of view
Feb 11, 2014

I'm working on a project for a client and ran into something today that I don't understand.  I hope someone has some insight on this.

I'm shooting some jewelry using my 6D and the 24-105 f/4.  Just as a quick test to see the difference in terms of sharpness, I decide to put my 100 f/2.8 macro on.  What I didn't expect is that the field of view was different; even though they were both set to 100mm, the macro looks like it is significantly closer.  Everything else stayed the same, camera position etc, etc.  I always assumed 100mm was 100mm was 100mm.  Can anyone help me with this?

I included a sample of each.

24-105 f/4 at 100mm with 6D

Thanks for your input!
