What do you like to shoot?

Without knowing that, it's difficult to relate to your question. What I like to shoot, and the specific lens choices I've made to handle that, I suspect would have little bearing on yours.

Brad, I shoot everything.. really. A visit to my website will bear this out. I shoot landscapes, wide-field astro, portraits, macros, seascapes, strange objects, concerts, night work.. you name it. I shoot anything I find to be interesting, beautiful, wide or up close... that's why I have the problem in making the decision.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

If you shoot "everything," how could I possibly make a recommendation as to which lens you should buy?

For me it would not be about which lens is optically better, but which focal length would serve my needs.

I could pick a lens for you, but how would my choice have any validity towards helping you with your needs?

Not trying to be argumentative, just not understanding how my (or others') pick can really help, especially if you shoot "everything."

Brad,

If you have experience with either or both, positive or negative, it helps in my decision process.  I know how I would use both lenses so it comes down to user experience and opinion.  Input, at this stage, is what I am looking for.. and it does not have to based on how I might use the lens but rather the experience of others with those lenses.
