Looks decent. Vari-angle screen is gone! Hope that screen flips 180 degrees. The 1.5" sensor is still there, with fast lens!

Comparing the actual FL and the equivalent FL on G1x and G1x2 shows that the crop factor is a bit higher on G1x2 (1.92x vs 1.85x), so the sensor size is a (tiny) bit smaller, and seems that the MP count is a bit lower too. Hope that the aspect ratio still is 4:3, but the LCD looks more like 3:2.

Canon might have done something similar to what Panasonic did going from the LX5 to the LX7: made the lens faster but slightly reduced its coverage. This would tie the rumoured specs together and enable a genuine variable-aspect-ratio feature (again, as on Panasonic LX cameras). The lens would be 24-120 mm-e and the output (in 4:3 aspect ratio) would be about 12.6 million pixels. The sensor itself need not be changed at all (though it might be, of course), which would even let Canon continue to market it as a 1.5"-type – even though the used portion would never be quite that large, regardless of the chosen aspect ratio.

Since the G1 X lens was already one of the most impressive feats of miniaturisation on the market, this new lens is nothing short of astonishing. Presumably this achievement will require even more elements and/or aspherical surfaces, though I nevertheless expect the uncorrected distortion at the wide end to be pretty terrible.
