Interesting idea, when you say 2.5 stops do you mean +1EV? is each third EV considered a stop, or if not how do you calculate 2.5 stops?

A stop is a complete EV step in exposure compensation. If, for example, you spot meter suggests shutter speed 1/1000 shoot with 1/200 (2.3 stops more exposure that 1/1000) or 1/160 (2.7 stops more exposure that 1/1000).
