Using a video microphone for webcam Skyping
10 months ago

Was thinking of buying a video microphone like the Rode (R0de) Videomic and was wondering if I could also use it for webcam Skyping on a PC. The grandparents have trouble hearing the kids talk with the PC's built in microphone. With a Videomic, I could put the microphone on a tripod right near the kids.

I'd need a 5' or 10' 3.5mm male to female extension cord. Is there a difference between the $12 Rode official extension cord vs a cheap Amazon one?

Rather than buying a separate microphone for the PC of dubious quality, I was thinking I could kill two birds with one stone and buy a known video microphone and have it do webcam duty too. Has anyone else tried using a video microphone for their PC? Any reason why this would or wouldn't be a good idea?
