300 shots would be nice as a minimum vs previous Merrill performance. 400 is a nice performance.

Not many compacts nor mirrorless have even 300 shots.

There are several mirrorless that certainly do. As for compacts Ricoh GR certainly does, and so does the Fuji X100s.

Neither of then surpasses 300 according to users. X100s I have seen people complaining about 200 shots only.

I don't know who is that. I know X100s first hand and it can do more than that.  You can even shoot using OVF only and significantly increase the number of shots (like double it).

If you look at the smaller Oly, Pana, Nikon etc.. most are good for around 230.

The Pentax MX-1 does CIPA 290- without flash that number increases.  The Ricoh GR does more than 300 (as I know first hand).   I was thinking interchangeable lens cameras when you said that but  even if we go by compact fixed lenses, there are several that do quite a bit.

The Panasonic LX5 does 500 CIPA (and I can attest it can indeed do that much as I had one). The Canon G16 does 360 CIPA, etc.

There are many cameras that as you say, do not do that much, but there's also many that do.
